June Komisar is a registered architect in Massachusetts and a Professor and Associate Chair, Undergraduate Student Affairs, in the Department of Architectural Science at Toronto Metropolitan University. She holds an M.Arch. (Yale) and a doctorate in architecture, specializing in history and theory (Michigan). June has taught the courses "Architectural Theory II: The Architect in Society," "Architectural Theory since 1968," "Designing the Productive City: Architecture and Urban Agriculture," and other history and theory of architecture courses as well as both undergraduate and graduate design studios with various themes from envisioning the post-carbon city to creating adaptive reuse co-housing projects in the downtown core. She is currently the coordinator of Communications Studio, the first studio in the first year of the program in Architectural Science.
She is also a mentor for thesis students working with food issues in their design projects. These thesis projects have included an urban farm, a slow food cooking school, a greenhouse and market complex under an elevated highway, and a cooperative housing complex with a community garden. She is a co-curator for the exhibit Carrot City: Designing for Urban Agriculture (www.Toronto Metropolitan University.ca/carrotcity) and a co-author of the book Carrot City. She is a former member of the Toronto Food Policy Council and a former board member of Green Thumbs Growing Kids, and a former board member of ICOMOS Canada.
