Marta Braun is Professor in the School of Image Arts, Toronto Metropolitan University and Director of its graduate program in Photographic Preservation and Collections Management. She is author of Picturing Time the Work of Etienne-Jules Marey 1830-1904 (University of Chicago Press, 1992), Eadweard Muybridge (Reaktion Press, 2010) and the children’s book Muybridge and the Riddle of Locomotion (Firefly Press, 2013). Professor Braun has published articles in Visual Resources, Études Photographiques and other journals on chronophotography, locomotion photography and early cinema. Her essays have appeared in, among others, Italian Futurism, 1909-1944: Reconstructing the Universe, (2014), Helios, the Art of Eadweard Muybridge (2010), Habitus in Habitat I: Emotion and Motion, (2010), Sequences: Contemporary Chronophotography and Experimental Digital Art, (2009), Musée de quai Branly; la collection, (ed. Yves le Fur, 2008), L’Art de la Photographie des origins à nos jours, (2007). Her current book project is on Italian Futurist photography. She was made a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques (France) for rendering service to the cause of French knowledge, culture, scientific progress and education in 1996, a Fellow of the Internationales Kolleg für Kulturtechnikforschung und Medienphilosophie, Weimar Germany. (IKKM) in 2008, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 2010.
