A Radio and Television Arts graduate, Karen had spent the last 30 years working in professional broadcast. As a director and producer, she has been a critical contributor to numerous news, travel, historical series, and sports productions. The quality of her work has been recognised with several Canadian Screen Award nominations and wins.
With over a dozen Olympic Games to her credit, Karen recently led the teams working on the Tokyo Summer and Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics. Karen was the first female Executive Producer at CBC Sports and the first female Senior Producer of live domestic Olympic shows and the Paralympics.
Karen is a rare find as she has worked with both traditional broadcasters and digital producers and possesses an in-depth understanding of past, present, and emerging production technologies. She understands the modes of production of several media platforms and is well-positioned to help develop a TV production curriculum that reflects the broadcast industry’s integration of remote and virtual production techniques.
Karen has played many roles, working with brands, content partners, leagues, and organisations. She brings a wide range of industry connections and relationships with people in the media industry that will further the reach of the Media Production program.
