Bio/Research

Dr. Enriqueta Zafra is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures. Her areas of expertise include Spanish Peninsular Literature, with a focus on Golden Age; early modern women travelers and the discourse on prostitution and gender; Cervantes and the female picaresque novel. She is the author of “Prostituidas por el texto: Discurso prostibulario en la picaresca femenina (2009) and "Teaching the Role of Prostitution in the Female Picaresque" included in the book Apporaches to Teaching Lazarillo de Tormes and the Picaresque Tradition (2008). Professor Zafra is also the editor of the picaresque novel, Vida y costumbres de la Madre Andrea (2011), which also includes an annotated translation by professor Anne Cruz, University of Miami. She is curretly working on the adaptation of Lazarillo de Tormes as a graphic novel. Her teaching areas are Spanish Peninsular Literature with a focus on the Early Modern period, Second Language Acquisition and Translation, with a special interest in Spanish Cinema as a means of communicating both language and cultural aspects of Spanish.
